Hydroformed Panic Door Release Bar

A client in the building products industry approached us for a solution for the fabrication of a panic door release bar. The original design consisted of multiple parts, and it was becoming increasingly expensive to manufacture and assemble.
We made a thorough study of the part’s form and functionality, and then developed a methodology for fabricating the entire assembly from a single length of tube. Our unique hydroforming process allowed us to achieve the tight radiuses as well as the dimensional variability along the entire length. Constructed from 304 stainless steel and measuring 36″ in total length, we produced the part to within very close tolerances and with an excellent surface finish. After dimensional and surface inspections at our facility, we shipped the parts to the customer, where their own internal testing validated that we met the specifications for burst strength, corrosion resistance, and fire resistance.
Our innovative approach benefited the cost profile of this part in several ways. Our ability to form the part as a single piece saved on manufacturing, tooling, and assembly expense. Since hydroforming increases the strength and rigidity of metals, we were able to use lighter gauge materials to achieve the same performance characteristics, which saved on material costs.
As the only shop that was able to create a single piece design for this product, the client was very impressed with our capabilities and extremely satisfied with the results.
